DART 381-Final Project Proposal

For the final project I was hoping to create a website for Team Brother Bear, a non-profit organization that was founded and developed this past summer by myself alongside family and close friends.

Team Brother Bear, is a non-profit organization that has been inspired by the vision of my cousin Austin Brasil. This organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of children who have been diagnosed with brain tumors, through fundraising for research, support for children as well as their families and by creating a community dedicated to positive change. Volunteers committed to fundraising and finding sponsorship will work together to help make the lives of diagnosed families easier and to find funds for research in this field of pediatric care.

Currently Team Brother Bear is using a blog (www.teambrotherbearcanada.blogspot.com) to inform and update individuals on our organization. Through the use of Dreamweaver and Flash, I would like to design a website that can be used for Team Brother Bear that is more professional and unique than the current blog.

Within the website I would like to include information about the overall vision of Team Brother Bear, documentation of past events (including various images), possible future events, information about the team, and the merchandise that is being sold as a way to fundraise.

Productive Interaction

Response to Productive Interaction

As defined by the author in the reading,

"P
roductive interaction is a recasting of the author/designer's position in relation to the

audience. Instead of laying out a linear narrative in an enveloping experience, the

productive interaction designer frames an exploration of a meaning space, making sure the

audience has the affordances to create their own "take"."

Although this reading created an interesting depiction of the future of interactive design, it also helped highlight existing designs that hold various interactive characteristics. This reading definitely opened up a whole new perspective within design, that seems create an interesting challenge for both current and up and coming designers. Although designers generally take the consumer into account, productive interaction pushes the role of the user to a whole new level. The user becomes just as important as a designer. I find through the concept of productive interaction, the designer has the ability to create a unique design, and then further push the designs originality by putting the consumer in control. The design now has the possibility develop a whole new dimension through the manipulation and creativity of the user. Although I feel this idea of productive interaction within design further pushes the obstacles for the designer, the possible diversity within the end creation could be absolutely incredible.

The following phrase from the reading concludes the entire concept of productive interaction, and will definitely change my approach within design.

"Designing for drivers instead of passengers."
