PROUN: Gallery Show

HATCH: Advanced Fashion Gallery Show, at NSCAD University's Anna Leonowens Gallery, brings together the 10 designers and their collections from the Advanced Fashion Studies class of 2011. With a focus on process and inspiration, the gallery show provides an opportunity to further understand the concepts and ideas that motivated each collection. Displays include mood boards, sketches, colour & fabric swatches, and portfolios.

PROUN's display includes initial sketches and designs from the beginning stages of the collection, mood board, final illustrations, the collection's final portfolio, and individual accordion look books that provide a 360 degree view of each look. The solitary dress in the collection was selected as the one look to be on display and to summarize the essence of PROUN.

PROUN in production.

Just a little update on what I have been up to with my Proun Collection

To date I have completed the basic bodice blocks for my five models and have made the necessary adjustments after meeting with them at our first fitting. I am now at the stage of creating the mock-ups (in muslin and scrap fabric) for my designs and doing many sew tests. I have completed majority of the mock-ups for the collection and need to schedule another fitting with my models. Above are a few photographs of the some of the mock-ups that have been completed. After I have my models try on the mock-ups I will make the necessary adjustments and prepare to start working in my final fabric. I intend to perfect the fittings of the mock-ups to I limit the amount of adjustments needed when working in my final fabrics. I will also be continuing to do sew tests to plan for the production of the final garments.
More production photographs to come shortly.

PROUN - Advanced Fashion Collection

PROUN is the dynamic and the directional. It feeds from the movement of the graphic liberation from the formal and exhausted grid; it eludes the principles of customary dress. Its language moves between the structures and the variable, while revealing an inevitable alliance with the angular and the asymmetrical.

She is unique and the juxtaposition of classic and directional is expressed in her nonchalant way. She is in definite control; her mantra speaks of moving between the boundaries and bypassing the magnetism of formality.

After sketching over 200 designs for this mini collection, I have finally determined the final looks. Above are the 5 final designs and flats  that I have selected for my advanced fashion collection 'PROUN'. I plan to document the production process with detail. Images of the mood board and inspiration will be posted shortly, along with the profile of my 'ideal' muse who has motivated a great deal of this mini collection.

NEXT STEP: Finalize models and take measurements, selection of final fabrics, sew tests, and draft patterns.

Frida - esque Intimate Apparel

Task : Develop an 'intimate apparel' collection motivated by a certain individual

Working within a group, we selected Frida Kahlo as our muse. With various elements to her personality, Frida was the perfect iconic figure to inspire our intimate apparel designs. We each individually came up with our own collections; encouraged by a certain aspect of Frida. My final collection was motivated by the traditional Mexican and romantic elements of Frida, and the familiar technique of crochet. Designing two looks for each category - Foundation, Lingerie, and Lounge wear - crochet was definitely carried throughout each area. The final girls developed for this collection are my 'contemporary Frida's' - using accessories of flowers, jewelery and wrapped 'bandages' to hint the chosen muse.
